STATEMENT
Scaffolding

Words, cliches and colloquial expressions in American English are the center of my art activities. I collect them, edit them, arrange them and hand paint them in an italicized digital font of my design.

The digital font is consistent, technical, empirical and precise while the subject matter is composed of informal communication habits.

Idioms are the perfect folk art. They belong to no one, are not authored by anyone but are used by everyone. They are readymade, pure media and part of the fabric of the language.

After an editorial process they are hand painted on canvas, paper or mylar. In some cases these phrases are used in message readers, live readings, and towed behind airplanes. In addition, I make and sell a gourmet spice blend called Uh Huh.
